The SA music awards (SAMA) snub has birthed a new reward system in Mzansi in the form of South African Amapiano Music Awards which is solely for artists/producers in the sub genre.

Amapiano is the biggest genre in South African at the moment as music producers like Kabza De Small and DJ Maphorisa posts interesting numbers whenever they release new song.

We have also seen artists from Hip Hop and Afro House genre try their hands on the fast-rising genre which has  its way into other countries such as Mozambique, Swaziland, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, and Namibia.

The first edition of South African Amapiano Music Awards is in its early stage yet has been enshrouded in controversy due to omission of notable names like Vigro Deep, DJ Jaivane, Kota Embassy, Kelvin Momo amongst others.

Also the exclusion of Sir Trill from the Best Amapiano Vocalist category has raised some dust as well.
