Chelsea face rivals Manchester United in what is their first major test for young manager Frank Lampard. The former Derby County manager would have a bit of shuffling to do ahead of the match with a number of absentees.

The major one is in the defence as the transfer of Brazilian defender David Luiz means that Lampard would have to integrate a new pairing at the club.

German defender Antonio Rudiger is still out with injury and this means that Kurt Zouma and Andreas Christensen could be the defensive pairing for the game.

Moving forward there are concerns about the fitness of midfield dynamo N’Golo Kante. The 27-year-old has been struggling with a niggling knee injury all summer but played 20 minutes in last week friendly against German side Borussia Monchengladbach.

Lampard has enough cover in the position with Kovacic and Bakayoko capable of playing the role. However, he could have fared better with long-term absentee Ruben Loftus-Cheek who is still some months from training.

Callum Hudson-Odoi is also some weeks from resuming training alongside young defender Reece James. One area where Lampard has many options is in the centre forward position with Tammy Abraham, Michy Batshuayi and Olivier Giroud vying for the lone striker role.

Abraham appears to have the edge but Lampard could start with Giroud or Batshuayi as both players have more experience.
