Themba Sonnyboy Sekowe popularly known as DJ Maphorisa has got ears for good music and that is quite evident in the number of hits the music producer has delivered over the years.
Maphorisa has been a regular in various South African music genres, from Kwaito to Hip Hop to Gqom before settling for the Amapiano genre which has been his forte since 2016.
The music producer here reveals how he started producing Amapiano songs even before he met Kabza De Small.
“The first amapiano song Wiz heard was by Calvin Fallo Wololo Remix in moloko PTA 5 years ago, dats when sponono by kabza was recorded n i didn’t know Kabza dat time. He asked me whats this sound its giving me goosebumps,” the DJ said.
“That’s when i really took amapiano serious Listening ke good skill. Call me Madumane Lawd Ya Di Piano,” he added.
Not many know DJ Maphorisa was behind the hit songs Ngud by Kwesta, Busiswa (Lahla), DJ Zinhle (My name Is), Professor (Jezebel) and Shekinah hit song, Suited.
